Bodylift Surgery

What is body lift surgery?

After severe weight loss, or with time and ageing, excess skin can develop around the abdomen, arms, and thighs, and droop with the effects of gravity.  This excess skin can be removed, and the remaining skin tightened and repositioned, to improve the contour and appearance of the entire area.  This procedure can involve the abdomen, flanks, back, buttock, inner thigh, outer thigh, arms, breasts, and pubic area.

The scars from these procedures can be extensive, but are planned to be situated where they can be covered by normal clothing or bathing attire, whenever possible.  Liposuction is also often performed at the same time to improve the contour further.

What are the benefits of this procedure?

Bodylift surgery can dramatically improve your abdominal silhouette and the contour of your buttocks, arms, thighs, breasts, and pubic area.  It also removes a significant amount of weight that is carried in the excess tissue.

With fewer folds in the skin, there are fewer issues with skin infections and rashes, and clothing is easier to fit.

Most importantly, however, is the increased confidence and sense of wellness that results from feeling happy with your new silhouette and shape.

Is Mr Morgan experienced in this procedure?

Mr Morgan has had many years of experience in performing these types of procedures.  At your consultation, Mr Morgan will be able to show you before and after photos of his own patients, many of who will likely have had the same concerns about their problem areas as you.

How is it performed?

This is lengthy surgery performed under general anaesthetic, and often requires two surgeons, but has predictable results that are immediately visible.  Your length of stay in hospital will be determined by the extent of your surgery and how quickly you recover, but can be for a duration of up to 10 days.

The wounds are all closed with dissolving sutures and are covered with waterproof dressings, allowing you to shower as soon as you feel comfortable.

A specially fitted garment will need to be worn for up to six weeks post-operatively to help maintain the result.

How long will I need to recover?

Everyone will experience an anaesthetic or recover from an operation differently.  Although uncommon, complications can also occur and result in a longer recovery time.

A compression garment will need to be worn day and night for at least 2 weeks post-operatively to provide support for the healing area and to minimize swelling and bruising.  The garment is usually worn for a further week or more during the day whilst you regain confidence.  Light activity is encouraged as soon as possible, and most patients will return to normal daily activities within three weeks. More strenuous physical activity should be limited for at least 6 weeks, but it may be up to 12 weeks before you feel as though your energy levels have returned to normal.

Who should/should not consider this type of surgery?

The best results are achieved in those with a clearly defined concern and realistic expectations about what surgery can achieve.  In situations where this is not the case, the outcome from surgery may often be disappointing.

You should not consider this type of surgery as a response to a personal or professional crisis, or under the encouragement of somebody else.  Any decision to undergo surgery needs to be for the right reasons.  All surgery entails an element of risk, and you should not make any decision regarding surgery at a time of stress.

Being healthy and happy with your decision increases the chances of achieving a satisfactory result.  Smoking, other medical conditions, and being overweight can make surgery unsafe.  These and other risks will be discussed with you at the time of your consultation.
